Overview

Anushka is a General Psychologist (currently completing her registrar's program in Educational & Developmental Psychology) located in Melbourne, with a strong passion for cultural psychology. Her most recent research project involved exploring the impact of Culture-specific family conflict on the mental health of Asian Australians. As a New Zealand born Fiji Indian, Anushka understands the struggles of growing up between cultures. As well as the impact of managing the demands between your culture of origin (i.e. Indian) and host culture (i.e. Australian). Biculturalism is a beautiful phenomenon, however, living up to the expectations of two different values systems can be stressful and have detrimental effects on mental health and wellbeing. At Umeed Psychology, we aim to support clients with a range of issues including intergenerational family conflict and trauma and stressors related to being a Third Culture Kid (Adult) among other common cultural issues. Anushka also has a strong passion for youth mental health, having worked and volunteered in a variety of youth mental health settings. Anushka has worked on issues that involve significant life changes including: changing schools/areas, bereavement/loss, breakdown of relationships, anxiety, panic, stress, low mood, depression, self-harm, trauma, building resilience and preparing for significant changes. Sessions can be held as regularly as necessary to support the changes you want to make. Anushka aims to work through your issues with you collaboratively and to support you in a non-judgmental and empathetic way.
