Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine

Higher Education

Overview

The Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine at the University of Houston is founded on a social mission to improve health in underserved communities in Houston and across Texas. If your key driver is to help others and make a lasting impact, the Fertitta Family College of Medicine is for you. Texas has a critical shortage of primary care doctors. To improve health in Houston and across Texas, our program emphasizes primary care — especially in urban and rural communities, which often have poorer health outcomes. We are committed to educating future primary care doctors to be the health change agents our state and community needs. Students receive the highest quality medical training to provide comprehensive health care and to address key factors that affect their patients' health. Our approach to medical education is rooted in sound clinical training aimed at overall wellness. We don’t train students to simply treat illness, but to take a holistic approach to improve patients’ health. We address the social and economic factors that affect health outcomes and work with a variety of professionals — from social workers and nurses to lawyers and community health workers — to eliminate health disparities in high-priority communities. The future of medicine is here. Come help shape it for a better tomorrow. Join our mission to improve health.
