Overview

Formerly, the UC Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal. Since its inception in 1976, the UC Law SF Communications and Entertainment Journal ("Comm/Ent") has served as one of the nation’s first law journals dedicated to the field of Communications and Entertainment law. Now, over forty years later, Comm/Ent has expanded its scope to other areas of law, including, but not limited to, Intellectual Property, Data Privacy, Licensing, Employment and Labor Law, Constitutional Rights, and International and Comparative Law. Comm/Ent’s publications include a mix of articles and notes written by law professors, legal practitioners, and law students from schools across the country. These articles encompass a vast array of legal issues, which are at the forefront of communications and entertainment law. Publications have addressed issues relating to radio and television broadcasting, film, sports, labor, cable television, music recordings, copyrights, trademarks, patents, the First Amendment, satellite communications, computer technology, the Internet, advertising, telecommunications, and commercial speech, just to name a few. Washington and Lee School of Law Library, which publishes the most widely-followed law review rankings, listed Comm/Ent as the nation’s fifth best law journal in Communications and Media Law and twelfth best in Arts, Entertainment, and Sports Law in 2021. With the second highest subscription at UC Law SF, it is no surprise that many await the Comm/Ent’s semi-annual publication with anticipation.
