Overview

Thermoilektriki Komotinis, a joint venture company between Motor Oil Hellas and GEK TERNA, was established in 2021. Thermolektriki Komotinis is constructing a new modern Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant fueled with natural gas of 876.6 WMe nominal output at site conditions located in the industrial area of Komotini. The HL technology of the main equipment used for the construction of the plant is of high class leading to elevated rates of the plant’s net performance, reaching 64% gross efficiency, while adding significant value to its competitiveness. The CO2 emissions are expected significantly reduced in comparison to a conventional lignite power plant. The construction of the power plant commenced within since 2021 and is expected to be commissioned for commercial operation in the summer of 2024 supporting by this way the stability of the Greek energy system. Thermoilektriki Komotinis new CCGT is one of the largest investments in the Greek energy market set to create approximately 500 new job positions during the construction phase and 100 permanent job positions (directly and indirectly) following the commencement of the commercial operation of the plant.
