The VIP - Violence Intervention Project

Individual and Family Services

Overview

The VIP deliver therapeutic outreach support for young people involved in Serious Youth Violence (SYV) and gangs. The aim of our work is to develop therapeutic relationships with vulnerable young people outside of conventional clinical settings. It is our belief that violence stems from poor emotional health and an inability to tolerate shame, leading to forceful responses aiming to gain a sense of pride through shaming others (normally rivals) ordinarily through violence either in person or via social media. We believe that helping young people develop an ability to discuss, label and regulate their emotions is fundamental in helping young people live healthy, safe and violence free lives. We deliver one to one support to young people in the community; group work in schools and community rugby programmes. We also run educational sessions promoting Shame Awareness around Serious Youth Violence and Gangs
