The University News (U-News) was founded in 1933 along with the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). For over 79 years, students and staff with an interest in journalism have been perusing and gaining skills in reporting, investigating, and writing for the weekly publication. U-News is UMKC's independent student newspaper, as well as a community newspaper serving the Brookside, Plaza, Westport, and Downtown locations of Kansas City, MO. U-News reports the news of UMKC and abroad, reviews and expresses the arts and entrainment of collegiate interests, and provides and in-depth coverage of UMKC Sports. In addition to content, U-News also focuses on Advertising. As the main source of revenue, U-News markets to local and national companies and corporations to allow them a chance to present themselves to college students and other readers. U-News strives to educate beginning journalist, and to produce an outstanding weekly publication. U-News is a long standing tradition of UMKC and the community.
