Overview

Created and offered by ETS, the TOEFL iBT® and TOEFL® Essentials™ tests are English language proficiency assessments often required for admission by English-speaking universities and programs around the world. The exams provide admissions officers an accurate measure of a student’s ability to use and understand the English language in the university classroom. To date, scores from the widely respected TOEFL iBT test have helped millions of students worldwide achieve their dream of studying abroad at more than 12,000 universities and other institutions in over 160 countries including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and across Europe and Asia. Students have the choice to take the TOEFL iBT test at a local test center, from their home with the TOEFL iBT Home Edition or on paper with the TOEFL iBT Paper Edition. The TOEFL® Essentials™ test is the newest offering from the TOEFL program. It features short, engaging tasks in a friendly format to measure proficiency in both academic and general English. The exam can be taken from home, from almost anywhere in the world, and it’s affordable — costing about half the price of other major English-language tests. Follow this page to receive the latest news, updates and information to help guide you along your journey and prepare for the tests. We encourage you to connect with other students by sharing your English language learning tips and test taking experiences. Also, from time to time, this page provides links to external sources. It's important to note that the TOEFL® Program and ETS do not endorse these sites, but includes them as a resource for your convenience.
