Overview

We are a 70-year-old student-run organization that is actively engaged in the upliftment of underprivileged individuals and organisation of sustainability-focused events. The organization is headed by Director, Brother Vivian Almeida and run by an Executive Committee. Our pursuit to uphold our motto, "Where goodwill meets Opportunity", is exercised through the following six projects. Project Care Kids consists of weekly visits to conduct sessions with disadvantaged children to aid their overall development as well as to cover topics which are not covered in their usual school syllabus. Rural Camp is a ten-day camp held in a village with 50 volunteers who engage in manual work, interact with the villagers and organize social events for the children of the village. Project Paint targets dilapidated or rundown schools, orphanages, old age homes and jails to brighten their interiors by painting them to create a more positive space. Blood Donation Drives are conducted twice a year with more than 400 donors in each drive. Project Sustain works to encourage sustainability across various SSL and other college activities and finally, Workshops is a project where a variety of experienced resource persons from different fields conduct skill enhancing sessions for the students of our college. Last year, with the unfortunate onslaught of Covid-19 pandemic, the SSL had to modify its modus operandi. We conducted various online workshops, webinars and awareness drives through our social media handles. We have mobilized our community and reached out to the vulnerable through collaborations with various NGOs that help provide for them. Our most exciting collaboration so far has been our partnership with UNICEF India. This year (2022-23) we hope to rekindle our offline events and aim to make the SSL a diverse, inclusive and safe space for every student. At it’s core SSL aims to build a community of like-minded people who wish to make a difference in society with kindness and humanity.
