The Salvation Army Newark was first established in 1867 to help the poor and truly needy throughout the area. Since then, its services have grown dramatically to include a broad program of social services, emergency assistance, disaster services, youth programs and pastoral ministries. The Salvation Army Newark Area Services is a representation of programs and services in the City of Newark and its surrounding areas. The Salvation Army’s work can be viewed through two lenses: programs and services that temper the present crisis and those that transform the future. Although The Salvation Army’s basic purpose has always remained the same, its focus evolves with the times to better serve community needs. A community’s unmet needs are truly at the forefront of The Salvation Army’s work; hence, our programs and services may be different in every community.
