Overview

MISSION STATEMENT: Route 66 Theatre Company knowingly encounters risk and embraces the American spirit of exploration. Committed to our home base in Chicago where the historic Route 66 began and collaborating with our artists in Los Angeles, Route 66 connects cultural divides by giving life to the vibrant stories that link America together. Our goal at Route 66 is to choose plays and musicals which are rooted in the stories of Americana but which have a “Chicago Style”: bold in their conception and frank in their execution. In creating an intimate theatrical experience, we seek to build a community of travelers along the road. We dialogue with our audience and invite them to be part of our Artistic family. We provide an open and collaborative environment where artists are treated with respect and equitably. Route 66 hopes to bring together the culturally rich cities, Chicago and LA, along "The Mother Road" and tell the tales of this country. In just three years, Route 66 has mounted six productions—one in two cities—has garnered 3 Jeff Award Nominations, and won one award. The sixth production, MCMEEKIN FINDS OUT, kicked off our first “Season” of work and opened on the 15th of October, 2010. Next up will be another world premiere, A TWIST OF WATER by Caitlin Parrish, scheduled to open in February 2011 at Theater Wit.
