The Rhapsody Project

Overview

The Rhapsody Project is a community that explores and celebrates music, heritage, and culture through an anti-racist lens. Our programs inspire people of all ages to seize their power as culture bearers, delve into the layers of their heritage, and invigorate American social life through the power of our cultures' music, food, and dance. We envision a world where each person feels and explores connections to each layer of their heritage, and communities gather regularly to share and celebrate and acknowledge those layers. In addition to musical instruction rooted in our approach to anti-racism, our non-profit offers a workshops and consultations that allow participants to better understand and address the complexity of identity and discrimination in American through a deeper knowledge of our musical history. Founded in 2013 in South Seattle by Ben Hunter & Joe Seamons, our organization is growing to include contributors from across the country, while offering programs online and in person that lead to a lifelong involvement in a community of people dedicated to shared values and a vibrant culture. Our approach centers the communal & functional - as opposed to academic - aspects of music.
