Overview

Northern Company is an award-winning Norwegian company that harvests and sells seaweed from the North Atlantic Ocean. Our product development focuses on natural preservation methods such as drying, maturation and fermentation to ensure the best possible quality and taste in all our products. Since 2014 we have continued to develop an attractive brand of gastronomic specialties where Nordic seaweed in combination with other dried and fermented ingredients is at the core. The seaweed from Northern Company grows wild, and we harvest each species by hand. In 2017, we established our harvesting grounds and processing centre at Træna in Helgeland, where the conditions are optimal; far out at sea with cold, shifting and clean water! Since our work is seasonal, we have activities both in Nordland as well as in Oslo. We view the Træna / Oslo axis as dynamic counterparts, where knowledge and creativity are mutually exchanged between sea and land. Our team consists of innovators, chefs, designers, harvesters, and other creative thinkers and doers. Our goal as a company is to make seaweed and fermented products available to a larger portion of the population, and to promote a healthier and more inspiring and circular lifestyle. To achieve this, we have in more recent years developed various popular catering concepts and events where we utilize our own products in combination with seasonal local ingredients. Our primarily plant-based food concept has been tested at some of the country's largest music and food festivals where we reach a considerable and varied audience. In our product range you will find fresh and dried seaweed and kelp, various types of salt and flavour enhancers, tasty side-dishes or garnish for any meal and a number of exciting new fermented products. Seaweed plays a unique role in all our recipes. It provides exceptional flavour and texture, gives our food the sought-after umami-rich depth while preserving and enhancing nutritional value.
