The National Theatre was established in 1835 and is the oldest continuing operating theatre in Washington, DC. On Pennsylvania Avenue, three blocks from The White House, stands The National Theatre, also known as "The Theatre of Presidents." This historic playhouse has seen Pennsylvania Avenue grow from the muddy main street of a fledgling capital, to the ceremonial avenue of a great world power. Our Mission: The National Theatre presents the highest caliber performing arts programs from Broadway productions to popular entertainment to award-winning educational programming, enhancing the vibrant cultural and economic landscape of the Washington, D.C., area.
