Overview
The Learning Cooperatives are centers which help teenagers live and learn without school. We have centers in Princeton, NJ, Langhorne, PA and Flemington, NJ. We support teens to create a personalized education based on their interests, abilities and goals. We offer help with planning, classes that run throughout the day, tutoring, help finding volunteer and work opportunities, mentoring, help with college admissions and a safe and comfortable place for teenagers to work and socialize. The Learning Cooperatives work with a wide range of kids. Some got straight A’s in school, but felt bored or unchallenged; some refused to buy in to the structure of traditional schools and therefore struggled; some had learning differences that schools could not or would not address. Others had passions they wanted to pursue, but felt that school and homework took up too much of their time; or they wanted a learning environment such as ours that fosters respect for each individual and understanding among peers. The common thread is that TLC members share a belief that they can learn more and their lives will improve without school. We accept new students at any point in the academic year. For a teenager who is bored, frustrated or unsupported in school, joining one of our centers can be a life-changing option.
