Overview

The Gallery began with a "what if" statement spurring on some imagination about what could be realized. What if a 2500 square foot commercial space could be a gallery? As a popup gallery, it closed December 2018. Thankfully, however, a group of artists initiated a brick and mortar store in Malden - now run by the artists. More details about this evolution (though completely separate) visit galleryat57.com That question prompted two popup gallery gift shop initiatives. The second one, 2017, lasted until 2018. The landlord allowed free use of the space for over one year. 77 sellers, including artists and artisans, sold hand crafted goods; fine artists displayed their work in a series of exhibitions; and performers held concerts sponsored by local businesses and the cultural council. When the physical space closed at the end of 2018, a new and emergent offshoot of this experience came to be - a physical brick and mortar shop on the main street of Malden took root and is now managed by committed artists who run, invest in, and are growing this endeavor. The Gallery@57, now an online commerce venture out of necessity and logical progression exists as the physical shop awaits the end of this pandemic. galleryat57.com
