Overview

FETN is a not-for-profit organisation working with the sector to achieve tutorial excellence. We are a friendly, collaborative network that believes in sharing good practice and supporting each other to improve. Our key aims are to: Support: We work with individuals, teams and whole organisations to enhance the quality and impact of tutorial, support and learner development. We provide mentoring for new and aspiring managers, coaching for individuals implementing quality improvements or improving their own practice, and work collaboratively with leaders to review, develop and implement policies and strategies. We encourage collaboration and sharing good practice through regional meetings, online events and the Members’ Forum. Educate: We help our members to reach their full potential at every stage of their career by providing a range of opportunities for continuous professional development. These include webinars, research papers, online tutor training, distance learning, in-house training and a programme of development events. We also encourage learning through practice based and collaborative projects that create new ways of working and new approaches to resource development. Advocate: We advocate on behalf of the tutoring profession, creating dialogue with policymakers on a local and national level. We understand the unique challenges for this area of provision and engage with relevant national and Government led bodies to raise the profile of tutorial, support and learner development. We have developed National Occupational Standards for Personal Tutoring, national guidance for many areas of tutorial provision and continue to lead on a range of tutorial development projects. Celebrate: We celebrate individual and organisational achievement of excellence in tutorial provision through our: • Quality Standard Accreditation for individual organisations • Professional Recognition Programme for tutoring practitioners • Annual Outstanding Personal Tutor Award
