On the 24th of April 2016, a delightful revolution was birthed in the African literary space. On this day, your favourite award-winning platform – The African Writers came into existence. After months of sharing her works on Instagram and working as an online journalist in one of Nigeria’s leading newspaper, writer and editor – Faith Moyosore Agboola discovered the vacuum for a fun, innovative and impactful community like ours. She noticed that there were a lot of young and budding writers who had dreams and lacked adequate support, motivation, training and networking opportunities. Simply put, writers needed a home and as such after months of heavy research, planning and consultation she decided to create The African Writers. Since 2016 we have worked hard to deliver on our promise to fill in this vacuum by organizing challenges, competitions, classes, workshops, offering valuable literary services as well as convening two editions of the African Writers Meet in October 2017 and December 2018. We have also partnered with amazing brands to organize campaigns, publicize events and to promote the growth of the literary space. All of these efforts landed us the Connect Nigeria and Union Bank’s Top 100 emerging SME award, which had us surpass 13,700 other nominees to emerge as the winner in the Arts and Literary space. We were also named one of the "Top 20 Most Oustanding Platforms in the Nigerian Arts and Literary space" in 2018 by the Nigerian Writers Awards.
