Overview

What is TED? TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. TED is a global community, welcoming people from every discipline and culture who seek a deeper understanding of the world. We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. What is TEDx? In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. About TEDx Mimas Street : TEDxMimasStreet is a platform for each individual in Homs who has a vision or idea worth spreading. We believe in the power of ideas and its role in making a change in our community, and in giving each person the chance to express his point of views. The war in Syria has destroyed many dreams, morals, and passion in almost every one living here. At the time when all current reconstruction efforts are targeting to rehabilitate the buildings and cities only, regardless the real people needs. Therefore we were inspired to offer a space for each person to share his views and dreams, and to give hope to the people living here. To put the first step in re-enabling our role as humans, and give back our ideas its accrued value.
