Overview

I created this support group to help all parents with children who have a disability. It can be so challenging to be a parent these days. Add in special needs and life can be overwhelming! This group is to share resources and opportunities while also providing support, empowerment, education, acceptance and advocacy. I found that I got the best advice from other parents who had been through the same type of issues. I don't always know the answer to every issue, but doing this for a decade has given me amazing contacts to special needs advocates, therapists, special activities, lawyers, respite and unusual opportunities. I always tell families, I might not know the answer to everything, but I will find someone who does. Having a group of people who "get" what you go through on a daily basis raising children with different needs is powerful. When I started SNAPS, there were 4 families, we now have 185 families. I love helping families as so many people helped me along the way, I love giving back to the community.
