Overview

The Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) plays a key role in the international student process. SEVP ensures that only legitimate international students and exchange visitors gain entry into the United States. The program also certifies schools and programs to enroll international students. SEVP is a part of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations, which is the largest investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). SEVP works closely with its government partners to monitor the compliance of international students and their dependents with federal rules and regulations, as well as the schools certified to enroll them through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). SEVP manages Study in the States (studyinthestates.dhs.gov), a DHS resource for international students and school officials. Study in the States offers the latest information and resources through blog posts, news articles, interactive guides and videos.
