Stichting URGENT bevordert het maatschappelijke debat rond urgente thema’s. URGENT organiseert bijeenkomsten en maakt mediaproducties over mensenrechten en andere maatschappelijke onderwerpen. SHELTER CITY Shelter City is een landelijk initiatief van Justitie en Vrede Nederland om mensenrechtenverdedigers te beschermen, in samenwerking met een groeiend aantal Nederlandse steden en lokale organisaties. Mensenrechtenverdedigers spelen een belangrijke rol in het bevorderen van democratische waarden, politieke vrijheden en burgerrechten. Dit is een uitdagende en gevaarlijke strijd: ze worden vaak het zwijgen opgelegd, bedreigd, gearresteerd, gemarteld en gedwongen te verdwijnen. Tijdens hun verblijf in Amsterdam zetten de mensenrechtenactivisten van de URGENT stichting hun werk in veiligheid voort en kunnen ze op adem komen. ------------------------------ ENGLISH The URGENT Foundation promotes social debate on urgent topics. We organise meetings and initiate media projects on human rights and other social issues. SHELTER CITY Shelter City is a nationwide initiative of Justice and Peace Netherlands to protect human rights defenders, in cooperation with a growing number of Dutch cities and local organizations. Human rights defenders play an important role in the promotion of democratic values, political freedoms, and civil rights. This is a challenging and dangerous fight: they are often silenced, threatened, arrested, tortured and forcibly disappear. During their stay in Amsterdam, the human rights defenders hosted by the URGENT foundation continue their work in safety and they can take a breath. WORLDTALKS WorldTalks is an initiative of The URGENT Foundation. All over the world, human rights defenders are fighting to protect human rights. However, a lot of these fights stay under the international radar and deserve more attention. World-Talks wants to give these human rights defenders a platform to spread their story.
