Static and Fatigue Testing Lab
Research ServicesOverview
The lab focuses on the static, fatigue, and fracture mechanics tests for different metallic materials produced using conventional, powder metallurgy, and additive manufacturing techniques. Along with the experimental capabilities, the group also focuses on the FE analysis of different structures to validate the experimental result and/or theoretical predictions. The research activities carried out include: Bulk specimens: • Uniaxial static tests under tension and compression. • Torsional tests. • Uniaxial fatigue tests under different R-ratio’s. • Biaxial (Axial and Torsional) fatigue test. • Fatigue testing of gears. • Fracture tests. Additively manufactured cellular specimens: • Uniaxial static tests under compression and tension. • Fatigue test under tension and compression. • Bending test. • Biaxial test List of testing equipment: • Two Instron servo-hydraulic universal testing machines. • RUMUL resonating fatigue test machine (50kN) • RUMUL resonating fatigue test machine (20kN) • STEP Lab electrodynamic fatigue test machine • Walter+bai biaxial testing machine (100 kN – axial + 1000 Nm – torsion) • Walter+bai biaxial testing machine (25 kN – axial + 75 Nm – torsion) Industrial collaborations: Lincotek Medical, Fonderie Ariotti S.p.A, SICOR S.R.L, Selle Royal
