Overview

The Solar Powered Automated Rapid Transit Ascendant Network (SPARTAN) Superway is a long-term initiative started at San Jose State University in 2012 to research, design, and, prototype a Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system for urban environments. A solar-powered PRT system solves some of the world’s most concerning problems, such as the dependency on fossil fuels, traffic congestion, and inefficient and costly public transportation. Our engineers are tasked with developing core technologies that will make PRT systems even more desirable and feasible. The team’s focus includes but is not limited to: bogie, control system, and a proprietary algorithm. Spartan Superway is committed to developing a flexible, adaptable, and expandable transportation solution. Our PRT system is unique as it’s being developed with the goal of not only tackling the traffic congestion problem but also the increase in climate change. We are devoted to collaborating with students around the world to provide them with the unique experience of working in a professional environment and educating them on the importance of developing sustainable technologies.
