Overview

Songwriting Works™ Educational Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to restoring joy, hope, vitality and community through story and song. We bring professional songwriters and music lovers of all ages together to collectively compose original songs using research-vetted facilitation methods. Our programs turn loneliness into connection, depression into happiness, and illness into health. Our award-winning songs and recordings busts through doubt, disease, prejudice and denial, uplifting individuals and communities. Pro musicians bring their skills into service using songwriting to transform and empower. Elder and younger participants-turned-composers include those living with Alzheimer's and dementia, Parkinson's, chronic illness, depression, stress, isolation, grief and other life challenges. They bring wit, humor, history, melodies, rhythms, insights and creative intelligence into original community composed songs. Family and loved ones join in. Completed songs are shared, composers and their communities honored – in concerts, recordings, scholarly publications and radio, television, film, and online. Strangers collaborate, neighbors become friends. Those who never sang before, or who have been left out or silenced, find their creative voices and are celebrated. Those who've been playing and singing for years find new ways to bring their talents into service. SW's the Mythsinger Legacy Project is restoring the wisdom of myth to culture and community by carrying forward the music, mythtelling, and teaching of Daniel Deardorff, songwriter, producer, polio survivor and author of The Other Within: The Genius of Deformity in Myth, Culture and Psyche. Join us in our mission to bring the power and proven health and social benefits of music-making and myth-telling to those in greatest need. songwritingworks.org mythsingerlegacy.org "I've never sung before in my life and now I'm singing!" -- Erna N, age 90
