Overview

The Department of Transportation and Public Works (TPW) is dedicated to planning, building, and maintaining the County’s investment in infrastructure through innovations in engineering that improve residents’ lives and enhance community well-being. The County of Sonoma consists of 1,768 square miles – more than the entire state of Rhode Island. Throughout the unincorporated County, there are 1,380 miles of roads and 328 bridges. It would take nearly 40 hours behind the wheel to cover every mile of County road driving at an average speed of 35 MPH. In addition to roads and bridges, TPW administers and oversees Sonoma County Transit, which provides local and intercity public transportation services and ADA paratransit services; Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport, offering service to and from destinations on four major airlines; Sonoma County Central Landfill, including five transfer stations and two hauling companies; and water systems for the communities of Fitch Mountain, Freestone, Jenner, and Salmon Creek. TPW is made up of a small team of engineering, maintenance, and administrative employees, many of whom were born and raised in Sonoma County, and all of whom are proud to make a positive contribution each day on behalf of our shared communities.
