Overview
Seafood Nutrition Partnership® is a nonprofit focused on the mission to inspire a healthier America through partnerships and outreach that raise awareness about the essential nutritional benefits of eating seafood. What we eat matters for our health and our planet’s health, and our future food security. In 2015, public health officials revised the USDA/HHS Dietary Guidelines for Americans, to include the recommendation to eat seafood twice a week as part of a healthy diet. Unfortunately, 80-90 percent of Americans are not following this recommendation. According to NOAA and USDA, annual American per capita seafood consumption is 16 pounds. In comparison, Americans on average annually consume 73 pounds of poultry, 80 pounds of oils, 110 pounds of red meat, 140 pounds of sugar, and 600 pounds of dairy. Seafood’s essential nutritional benefits are supported by rigorous scientific research and prominent health organizations recommend eating seafood at least twice a week for brain health, heart health, and eye health. Seafood Nutrition Partnership commits to building awareness of seafood’s essential health benefits in the prevention of heart disease, support brain health, and developing the tools and resources necessary to easily incorporate seafood into today’s American diet through education and awareness.
