Science and Technology Law Association (SATLA)

Legal Services

Overview

SATLA is the only student body at Melbourne Law School that serves law students with a background or interest in science and technology. Founded in 2016 by Dr Andrew Christie, SATLA adds value for students across three key focus areas: engagement, careers and education. At panels with legal and industry experts, we have introduced students to new employment paths and the latest innovations at the intersection of science, technology and law. At the same time, we successfully advocated for new science and technology law subjects through Associate Dean Jeannie Patterson. In 2018, we are dedicated to providing even more opportunities for students both in and out of the classroom. Of course, one of the most important considerations for us is what happens when we ultimately leave MLS. Professional opportunities and industry engagement are invaluable to students seeking to enter a market where law, technology and science are rapidly evolving. You can find us on our Facebook page (www.facebook/satlamls), and at events at the Law School throughout the year. You do not need a background in science or technology to join in — just an interest in this growing and dynamic area!
