Overview
Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) is an international agricultural development NGO registered in Geneva, Switzerland. It was co-founded in 1986 by Nobel Laureate Dr. Norman Borlaug, Japanese philanthropist Ryoichi Sasakawa (Nippon Foundation), and former US President Jimmy Carter. Since then, SAA has worked with the Carter Center’s Global 2000 Program to establish Sasakawa Global 2000 (SG 2000) agricultural programs in 14 sub-Saharan countries. Currently, SAA works under Strategic Plan 2021-2025 with Regenerative Agriculture, Nutrition-Sensitive Agriculture and Market Oriented Agriculutre as core pillars and operates in four focus countries – Ethiopia, Nigeria, Mali and Uganda. Working with national partners, SAA has improved the productivity and income of smallholder farmers by promoting the adoption of improved cost-effective technologies along agricultural value-chain.
