Ruth Mark-Roland Psychotherapy

Overview

Ruth made the transition from business development to psychotherapy in 2013, bringing highly-honed skills in relationship building to her new vocation, allowing her to rapidly establish trust with her clients, facilitating their ability to bring about change in their lives. Beginning as a volunteer psychotherapist with the Terrence Higgins Trust, she offered clinical assessments and crisis interventions. She has also worked with NHS South London and Maudsley IAPT where she worked with clients using a range of treatment modalities to help them implement mental, emotional, behavioural goals in both the short and long term. Her role of providing therapeutic support to adult patients in secondary care gave her deep exposure to psychotherapy’s effectiveness in assisting individuals who could be a risk to themselves or others, especially in relation to severe conditions such as depression. Having lived on three continents and travelled widely in her former career, Ruth has special expertise in cross-cultural communication, allowing her to rapidly and comfortably establish a therapeutic relationship that is respectful of but not constrained by the cultural background and beliefs of her clients. All Ruth's work has involved a wide range of clients from diverse backgrounds. This is particularly advantageous in workplace therapy, where issues of culture and communication can often be at the heart of difficulties experienced at, or through, work.
