Overview

Romaltyn Mining Company is a project with the purpose of processing and recycle mining waste whilst recovering precious metals, gold and silver, from the processed waste. Their task is to process 8.5 million tons of tailings that originate in the 60’s - 70’s and are made up of mining waste from previous mining operations. These tailings are currently stored in the close proximity of Baia Mare city. After 5 years of operations, the recycling of tailings will root out one of the riskiest sources of pollution for the city and its surroundings. Vision Romaltyn Mining’s goal is to develop a modern and effective mining waste reprocessing project by applying economically viable solutions and good practices to warrant sustainable development. Mission Romaltyn Mining’s mission is to implement the newest mining waste recycling technologies in order to maximize returns while maintaining the most rigorous environmental and health quality control procedures. They aim to live up to all expectations raised by their employees, shareholders and the entire community in terms of economic efficiency, transparency and social responsibility. Romaltyn’s activity consists of recovering gold and silver content from mining waste. The technological process comprises: • Preparation of slurry (the tailings - water mixture) in the Central Dam; • Transportation of the slurry to the Tailings Retreatment Plant; • Dissolution and separation of precious metals in the plant; • Detoxification of slurry tailings within the plant; • Storage of resulted waste in the Aurul Tailings Pond.
