Overview
Rensselaer Motorsport is a group students who share a passion for the engineering and manufacture of an open-wheeled race car for the Formula SAE engineering competition. Organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers, Formula SAE provides students with real-life design, management, and engineering challenges. Formula SAE is an intercollegiate design competition organized by SAE International. The competition requires a team of students to design, manufacture, and market a Formula-style racecar. Each year, the racecar is evaluated in two categories: static and dynamic. In static events, the vehicle is judged on cost, manufacturability, and design. In dynamic events, the vehicle is judged on acceleration, skid-pad, autocross, endurance, and fuel economy. Annual competitions are held internationally in Brazil, Italy, Germany, Australia, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
