Overview

Recoop was founded in 2010 with the aim of providing services and support for those over 50 within the criminal justice system. This age group is the fastest growing cohort in England and wales with 17% of the prison population aged over 50 with no sign of reducing. Currently, 61% of those over 50 in prison, are more likely to suffer from a range of physical and mental health issues including depression, anxiety, diabetes and asthma. Prison infrastructure can exacerbate these aliments leading to poor quality of life for these individuals. Our objectives include: - Having a visible presence in prisons in order to work closely with the growing older prison population - To continuously develop services to aid the older cohort - To continue to influence and inform policies regarding the older cohort especially in regards to the Ministry of Justice and Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS). Recoop currently run a variety of enrichment, wellbeing, health and social care and resettlement services and projects across all category of prisons. Further information about specific services, can be found on our website.
