‘Corporate Social Responsibility’, ‘Social Business’, ‘Green Business’, ‘Circular Business’; we’ve been talking and writing about them - especially their importance for our own futures and that of the planet’s - for quite some time now. And slowly the meaning of these terms has gained traction up to the boom of social start-ups in recent times. ‘Social’ is hot, and is being taken very seriously. What we’ve noticed however, is that ‘social’ is still very much associated with ‘no profit’. How can you flourish as a business though, if you can’t make money? How do you survive, how do you grow? And survival and growth are necessary, not to make more money, but to have more impact, to be purposeful! Purpose People Practice aims to reconcile social thinking (i.e. ‘social impact’ and ‘profit is bad’) and business thinking (i.e. ‘profit is needed to grow’ and ‘social is a money pit’) in the conventional business community as well as the social start-up community. Our purpose is to help vastly increase social impact and make the world a better and more sustainable place. Purpose People Practice offers support to existing conventional enterprises who want to add a second or third bottom line (i.e. social, societal impact) to their business activities on the one hand, and on the other hand to social start-ups who want to scale up into healthy and sustainable businesses. We do this through several activities: a development (learning) track, consultancy, publications, speaking engagements, and a community of practice (peer-to-peer learning and support).
