Overview

The Department of Anthropology offers a broad spectrum of specialties including archaeology and bioarchaeology, biological anthropology and the study of primates, anthropological linguistics, and cultural anthropology. We also focus on social and policy applications of anthropological knowledge, particularly in areas of diversity and globalization, medical anthropology, environment and conservation, and international development. We offer BA, MS, and PhD degree programs in Anthropology. Our students participate in a curriculum designed to provide the professional skills necessary for research in academic and applied anthropology settings. These include: communication, grant writing, and ethics. We offer broad training to prepare students for diverse career options. We are deeply involved with Purdue’s strategic initiatives on “Engaging Global Grand Challenges”. Our main focus areas are: •Applied Anthropology & Public Engagement •Ecological & Environmental Anthropology •Science & Technology •Health & Well-Being •Identity, Politics & Social Justice To complement your Anthropology education, students can link with Engineering, Technology, Health Sciences, Agriculture and/or Purdue’s numerous Interdisciplinary Programs and Research Centers. Admitted graduate students receive financial support in the form of a teaching assistantship (TA), a research assistantship (RA), or a multi-year fellowship on a competitive basis to qualified students. Financial support for one to five years includes a monthly stipend, a waiver of tuition, and partial fee remission. Opportunities include support for continuing graduate students, conference travel, and dissertation writing.
