Overview

Vision: To design and manufacture automobile and mechatronic systems, priority being the customer, and constantly de-risking the business through optimal product and industry mix. Progressive Engineering Works was established in 1972. We started off as a nut/bolt, drain plugs and filler plugs manufacturer. We were one of the few companies that had the thread rolling machines in that era. Our founder had hand build two thread rolling machines based on German designs. We use these machines to full capacity even today. In 1995, we found an opportunity in forged components. PEW started expanding the product portfolio; we started manufacturing gearshift lever assemblies. CNC machines were alien to SME industries at that time. They were expensive and the companies did not have the expertise to operate them. We saw that the conventional machines were fading away and also maintaining the quality was extremely difficult. In 2003, the first CNC machine was commissioned at our plant in Mumbai. The risk paid off and attracted larger volumes. This build the management’s confidence and then we started installing a fleet of CNC machines. We then expanded into manufacturing of a range of shafts. In 2005, we backward integrated and set up a forging, induction heat treatment and machining unit in Alandi, Pune by the name Induction Treatment Private Limited (ITPL). We started manufacturing our own forgings. Over the years we have successfully expanded and as a result we are an approved source for heat treatment with a number of OEMs. In 2010, we installed a CNC spline rolling machine. Barring the OEMs, we are one of the few companies in the country having expertise in this technology.
