PowerWells addresses the dual global problems of electronic waste and energy poverty by leveraging them as solutions for each other: Within Australia, li-ion battery waste grows at 20% p.a. but only 2% is recycled - CSIRO, 2019 Globally, roughly 800 million people don’t have access to basic electricity - World Bank, 2020 PowerWells recovers lithium-ion batteries from old electronics, and uses them to manufacture small solar-energy systems, which are deployed in communities that do not otherwise have access to electricity and non-polluting lighting.
