Overview

Plan + Place is a non-profit, non-partisan organization devoted to strengthening and sustaining the health, vitality, and character of communities and the built environment. We believe that fostering positive change for all members of a community requires holistic, people-centered solutions at the intersection of urban design, mobility, landscape ecology, civic engagement, and technology. OUR WORK We are an idea incubator and laboratory for solutions, focused on evolving the planning and design practice for a changing world. Drawing on our collective experience in private practice as planners, urban designers and landscape architects, we strive to impact communities and our profession through: Place-based Design and Policy Solutions Working directly with and for communities by providing planning and design assistance, policy analysis, meaningful civic engagement opportunities, and pilot project implementation Applied Research Conducting research and analysis to identify and test new approaches to contemporary planning and design practice Thought Leadership Developing and sharing the tools and best practices needed to address emerging local needs and foster innovation. OUR PRIORITIES Public Space Creating inspirational places where streets and other public spaces support and enhance quality of life, sense of place, mobility options, and safety. Environmental Sustainability and Stewardship Emphasizing and celebrating the importance of green infrastructure, ecology, and natural processes in the designed environment, while addressing the challenges posed by a changing climate and evolving landscapes. Equitable and Inclusive Communities Fostering robust and inclusive civic engagement while ensuring that patterns of land use and urban form benefit all members of a community. Healthy Communities Designing communities in which the built environment supports and promotes physical and mental wellness at all stages of life.
