Overview

The creation and placement of an implant is a succession of different specializations such as: materials science, biomechanics, production technologies (including 3D printing), IT and visualization technology, clinical research and specialized surgeons. That is why the Personalized Implants ecosystem has been created in the Northern Netherlands. Various manufacturers and R&D companies, the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) and the University of Groningen work together on innovative solutions to improve the current implant design and production workflow in all its steps, including the selection of the biomaterials to be used, the visualization of the design, the manufacturing process and the medical procedures for generating personalized implants within days of the admission of a seriously injured patient to the hospital. The Personalized Implants ecosystem strives for efficiency and effectiveness in transforming the entire production value chain for personalized implants. The ecosystem has been made possible by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) coordinated by the SNN Northern Netherlands Collaboration with support from the Municipality and the Province of Groningen.
