PERIOPSIS LTD is a spin-off company of the CYENS center of excellence (https://www.cyens.org.cy/en-gb/), which is the first Research Centre in Cyprus focusing on Interactive media, Smart systems and Emerging technologies, aiming to become a centre of excellence empowering knowledge and technology transfer in the region. PERIOPSIS received funding for its creation from the PRE-SEED call of the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), which is the national authority in charge of supporting and promoting research, technological development, and innovation in Cyprus. The PRE-SEED call targeted the ”creation and Initial Development of STARTUPs with international orientation” and PERIOPSIS was selected via a very competitive process (5% acceptance rate). The mission of PERIOPSIS is to become established in Europe as a highly innovative company engaged in the use of emerging IT technologies (satellite imagery and aerial photography, artificial intelligence, machine and deep learning, Internet of Things) for the purpose of large-scale environmental observation and modeling, with potential clients ranging from the industry and commercial world up to governments and governmental entities, for shaping together environmental policy-making. The first product of PERIOPSIS is an AI model, based on deep learning which detects and classifies illegal dumping by analyzing satellite images, sharing those insights with municipalities and local communities which register to this service.
