Overview

The Orang Utan Republik Foundation (OURF), also operating as TOP-USA, began as a project, Orang Utan Republik Education Initiative (OUREI) in 2004, to save wild orangutans from extinction through education and other innovative collaborative projects. OURF is a publicly funded, 501c3 nonprofit organization, based in Santa Monica, California, and serves as a chapter of The Orangutan Project (Australia). OURF provides funding to the Orangutan Caring Foundation of Indonesia which operates the Mobile Education and Conservation Unit, a program that goes to schools, universities, villages, government offices, and public venues to educate the local people about orangutans, their plight, and what the local people can do to help save the species. OURF also works with other organizations in Indonesia to administer the Orangutan Caring Scholarships as well as conservation programs in Indonesia and Malaysia through TOP.
