Overview

The Office of the Auditor General is a statutory position established by the Virgin Islands Constitution to audit and report upon the accounts of government and public bodies. The Auditor General carries out financial and performance audits through staff employed in the Audit Department and by the engagement of professional accounting firms. The Auditor General is the departmental head and accounting officer responsible for the professional leadership of the Audit Department. Administratively, the Audit Department is hosted by the Government of the Virgin Islands, but (in accordance with section 109(4) of the Constitution) the Auditor General acts independently and is not subject to the direction or control of any person or authority.
