Overview

Established by Section 192(e) of the New York City Charter, the Office assists City agencies in carrying out their environmental review responsibilities. In addition to being the repository for all City Environmental Quality Review (CEQR) documents, the Mayor's Office of Environmental Coordination (MOEC) serves as the City's liaison to state and federal agencies on environmental matters and advises the Mayor on matters of environmental policy. Executive Order 149 of 2011 further defines MOEC’s responsibilities to include implementation of the City’s green building law, including authorizing the Director to exercise the powers and duties of the Mayor granted by the law. MOEC’s mission is to be a resource for city agencies and private applicants by providing information and assistance in completing the environmental review process and to help the city to lead by example in applying state-of-the-art green building requirements.
