Overview
As the regulator of the legal profession, the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society protects the public interest in the practice of law. For frequent updates, visit our website at nsbs.org, follow us on Twitter @NSBS and find us on Facebook at NSBarristers. Under the Legal Profession Act, the Society sets and maintains standards for the credentialing and admission of those who seek to practise law in Nova Scotia. Through its regulation, the Society ensures the professional responsibility and continuing competence of lawyers, with rules addressing ethical and professional conduct, as well as standards for family law, real estate law, and law office management. Along with its role as a regulator, the Society strives to improve the administration of justice in the province. "Enhancing access to legal services and the justice system for all Nova Scotians" is a core strategic priority. The other is "Transforming regulation and governance in the public interest." For details about the Society's progress toward a new framework of legal services regulation, see nsbs.org/legal-services-regulation.
