Overview

The Ngāti Whakaue Assets Trust was established in 2009 for the purpose of receiving, growing and distributing the tribe’s settlement funds from the Central North Island Forests Collective Settlement. The vast majority of settlement land is part of the Kaingaroa Forest. On 1 July 2009, the whenua, accumulated rentals and other settlement assets from the Central North Island Forests were transferred from the Crown to the tribes for the benefit of all collective members. Ngāti Whakaue is part of the the CNI Iwi Collective, a confederation of eight iwi from the central North Island (CNI) region, including: ● Ngai Tuhoe ● Ngāti Manawa ● Ngāti Rangitihi ● Ngāti Tuwharetoa ● Ngāti Whare ● Raukawa ● Te Pumautanga O Te Arawa Our purpose is to support Ngāti Whakaue whether it relates to the relief of poverty, the advancement of education, their socio-economic position, or religion or any other purposes beneficial to Ngāti Whakaue.
