Overview

There is a bundle of rare neurological diseases which together create a devastating burden on patients, their community and the wider health system. But there is good news. Brisbane is home to exciting research collaborations which extend internationally, and therapies are emerging for diseases which until now have been untreatable. Nerve Connection Foundation was established in 2021 to address the gaps in knowledge between motor neurone diseases and its close relatives, and coordinated multi-institutional investigations. Funds are utilised specifically for neurological disease research. Grants from the Foundation enable highly skilled, passionate people to undertake research across various physical locations, using Foundation connections to link different studies for the best possible outcomes. What’s more, with research HQ Brisbane as its hometown, the Foundation is perfectly positioned to meet its objectives. The aims of Nerve Connection Foundation are to: • support neurological disease research and novel therapy clinical trials; • connect and support the various Brisbane research institutions and their undertakings, for a more comprehensive research outcome; and • provide financial support to expert health practitioners to undertake important, underfunded research and clinical trials. The organisation is run by volunteers. This model keeps administrative and compliance costs to a minimum, which equates to the best outcome for the research and clinical trials it supports.
