Located in the Indian state of Bihar, about 10 miles north west of Rajgir and 55 miles south east of Patna, Nava Nalanda Mahavihara is a modern centre for Pali (Theravadin) Buddhist studies. Bhikshu Jagdish Kashyap founded the Nava Nalanda Mahavihara to "revive the lost glory and the heritage of ancient Nalanda Mahavihara." Nava Nalanda Mahavihara opened its doors in 1951, and more than 50 years later, it remains dedicated to develop a centre of higher studies in Pali and Buddhism along the lines of ancient Nalanda Mahavihara.
