Overview

The Mohawk Valley Economic Development District, Inc. (MVEDD) formed in 1966, has been focused on fulfilling the EDA's mission in the Mohawk Valley Region. This mission is " ...to create and retain jobs and to help stimulate industrial and commercial growth in distressed rural and urban communities across the nation.” In New York State, MVEDD is one of nine economic development districts (EDDs) and one of seventeen revolving loan fund grantees of the United States Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA), serving the counties of Fulton, Herkimer, Montgomery, Oneida, Otsego, and Schoharie. Mohawk Valley Rehabilitation Corporation (MORECO) was established in 1978 to relieve and reduce unemployment, promote and to provide for additional and maximum employment, to better and to maintain job opportunities, to instruct or train individuals to improve or to develop their capabilities for jobs, to carry on scientific research for the purpose of aiding a community or geographical area by attracting industry to the community or area or by encouraging the development of, or retention of, an industry in the community or area, and to lessen the burdens of government and to act in the public interest.
