Overview
WHO WE ARE Middlesex Habitat for Humanity (MHFH) is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. We are an independent, locally run, IRS 501(c) (3) organization, headquartered in Cromwell, CT and working throughout Middlesex County. WHAT WE DO We construct, rehabilitate, and preserve homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat provides partner families with a hand up, not a hand out. Our partner families agree to repay the cost of their home to Habitat via a no-interest, no-profit mortgage which is held by MHFH. We acquire land and houses to rehab through property donations, tax liens and very low-cost sales from both individuals and towns. With the dedication of many volunteers, we are providing an American Dream – home ownership – to partner families in our Middlesex County communities. HOW WE DO IT Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, financed with affordable, no-interest loans. The homeowner’s monthly mortgage payments are used to build more houses. We also operate a ReStore in Cromwell, CT. The ReStore is a nonprofit home improvement store and donation center that sells quality new and used furniture, appliances, home accessories, and building materials to the public at low cost. We are protecting the environment by keeping furniture and other items out of landfills and use the proceeds to build homes. WHY WE DO IT We believe in a world where everyone has a decent and affordable place to live.
