Overview
A 45 minute drive from Danang International Airport in Central Vietnam, Hoi An has earned a reputation as one of Vietnam’s most picturesque towns. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999, Hoi An’s well preserved mix of Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese and French Architecture reflect the towns fascinating past as a major trading port. Between the 17th and 19th centuries “Fai Fo” was frequented by far away traders from Holland, China, Japan and India who came in search of Vietnam’s silk, porcelain and spices. While the trade dried up when the river filled with silt, the town’s distinctive architecture remains intact, having miraculously survived the wars of the 20th century. Today, Hoi An is known for its friendly relaxed atmosphere, white sandy beaches and the many tailor and shoe shops where visitors can have anything made to measure at a moment’s notice
