Media Monitoring Africa

Overview

Media Monitoring Africa’s vision is a responsible, quality media that enables an engaged and informed citizenry in Africa and across the world. MMA aims to contribute to this vision by being a leading media watchdog in Africa to promote a free, fair, ethical and critical media culture. The three key areas MMA seeks to address through a human rights-based approach are media freedom, media ethics and media quality. Established in 1993 to monitor South Africa’s first democratic elections, MMA has over 25 years experience in media monitoring and direct engagement with media, civil society organisations and citizens. MMA is the only independent organisation in Southern Africa that analyses and engages with media according to this framework.
